Shane Cullen, 23, called to the home of Aishling Kirwin at Glendale Manor at 3.30am on October 9th last year.

He had been out drinking and was extremely intoxicated.

Cullen, of 17 Glendale Manor, had earlier passed Ms Kirwin’s house and spotted her ex-boyfriend’s car outside.

He arrived at the house and demanded to be allowed in.

He kicked the door in and climbed the stairs and confronted Ms Kirwin asking who was in her bed with her.

She denied there was anybody in the bed but he then spat in her face.

Solicitor for Cullen, Kieran Dillon, said there was a large amount of alcohol consumed by the accused and he was deeply sorry for what had happened.

“He is very sorry for what happened but there was a large amount of alcohol consumed and the situation he had seen earlier had been festering with him,” said Mr Dillon.

He said the couple were back in a relationship and now had a child together.

There was a total of €1,124 worth of damage caused and Cullen had €400 in court to pay as part of that compensation.

“They have weathered the storm and are together and focusing on the future,” added Mr Dillon.

Judge Paul Kelly adjourned the case for a probation report until September.
