Division Three Reserve
The cross lads were the better side in the first half but were very wasteful in front of goal kicking eight wides before the break. They went in 06 to 0-3 up but there should have been more daylight between the sides.
The home team scored the first point of the second half to go four up but that was to be their final score of the match. The men from Newton powered to victory scoring 2-5 unanswered. The final score was Red Hughs 0-7 Naomh Colmcille 2-8
Division Three Senior
This was one of the most anticipated encounters of the weekend with Naomh Colmcille the visitors to the Cross looking to get one over on their ex-manager Stephen Friel.
The visitors scored the first point of the game after only 30 seconds on the clock when their midfield man struck from distance. They struck again five minutes later to go two up. The Reds got to grips with the visitors and scored two points of their own to level the game up with two frees from Damien Brown. The visitors were strong in the middle of the park and were winning the lions share of possession they went one up again in the thirteenth minute when their centre half forward kicked over another long distance effort before Brown equalised with another free. It was a close hard battle with hard tackles flying in from the visitors who used their physicality to their advantage. The Newton men scored one more before Brown struck another two before the break to leave the Reds one up at half time. The Half Time score Red Hughs 0-5 Naomg Colmcille 0-4
The visitors started the second half as they did the first scoring a point in the first few seconds. The Reds then sparked to life and upped the tempo moving the ball a lot faster than they had in the first half and the visitors struggled to get possession. A sweeping move from the back line seen the ball tapped over the bar from the young Johnny Carlin to finish off a great move. From the kick out the Naomh Colmcille side scored another point to tie the match up once again. Two minutes later in an almost carbon copy move of Carlin’s point, this time seen Calvin Bradley rattling the net with a well taken goal. The Reds were a goal up but failed to put the visitors away and they rallied with three unanswered points to again put them level. It was a rip roaring contest with both sides going for it. With the game now in the last minute and both sides frantically looking for the winning point Red Hughs broke up the pitch with speed Cathal Doherty delivered a fine pass inside to Bradley who rounded the defender a goal chance was on but he took the sensible option to tap it over to put them one up with the game now in injury time. From the resulting kick out the visitors got the break in the middle of the park and went on the attack. Their number eight tried his luck from distance to try and level proceedings again but it was drifting wide before their corner back somehow got his fist to the ball catching everyone unaware and Reds keeper Luke Kelly was unable to stop it from ending up in the net. Time was up and the ref called a halt to the game from the kick out. It was a victory that Naomh Colmcille wanted badly and celebrated like they had just won the championship but that was just measure of what it meant to them.
The final score was Red Hughs 1-9 Noamh Colmcille 1-10
Next Game is at home to Maomh Brid this Saturday Reserve Throw in 6pm Senior 7.30pm
Training continues on Tuesday & Thursday at 7.30pm for seniors and minors.
Senior Ladies
The ladies training continues as usual on Monday and Thursday at 7.30pm The league will be resuming shortly after the exam break.
Minor Board
The under 10 boys and girls playing in blitz in Mc Cumhaills on Saturday morning. Bus is leaving the pitch at 10.15am bring €2 for the bus
The under 12 boys played St Eunans on Monday evening in Letterkenny. They started slowly and found themselves well behind before they got going. They put in a mighty second half but were unable to claw back enough scores to get in front. The final score was Red Hughs 5-6 St Eunans 7-11 They play Glenfin next Monday the 23rd at home Throw in 6.30
The under 14 boys are playing Burt in the semi final of division 3 championship shield. The game was postponed on Saturday and will be rescheduled this coming week.
The minors are playing Letterkenny Gaels on Wednesday evening in Letterkenny in a friendly to restart their season after the league campaign and exam break.
Local League
The local league will take place earlier this year kicking off in the first week of July. Ther will be a slightly different structure this year with the teams being split up more on a evenly matched basis. There for we are having a local league registration night next Monday the 23rd in the clubhouse from 7-8pm registration is imperative so that we can pick the teams evenly. Registration is €2 per child.
Minor board meeting next Monday in the clubhouse at 8pm all managers please attend.

Good luck to the Dromore N.S. girls team who are playing Falcarragh in the County Final on Wednesday in O Donnell Park Letterkenny at 11.30am
