DRIVING CHARGE AGAINST ACTOR STRUCK OUT AFTER HE APOLOGISES TO COUPLE

A driving charge against actor Gerard McSorley was withdrawn after he apologised to a couple outside of a local courthouse.

The star of many films and TV programmes including In The Name of the Father, Veronica Guerin and Father Ted, appeared at Letterkenny District Court on a charge of careless driving.

Gardai were about to be sworn in for the hearing of the case when the court was told there was a development.

The court was then told that the injured parties did not wish to proceed with their complaint.

A charge of careless driving against McSorley of 1 Cul Na Toinme, Magheraclogher, Bunbeg was listed as happening on May 14th, 2011 at Cranford.

Garda Inspector David Kelly said the injured party did not now wish to proceed with the case.

He said Mr McSorley had met the injured parties outside the court and apologised to them.

He also said that the civil aspect of the case had also been rectified.

Judge Paul Kelly instructed that the matter be struck out.
