Well done to the Seniors who won a hard-fought game against Burt in the Scarvey on Saturday. The game was played in perfect conditions on an excellent pitch. Buncrana led at half-time and took their advantage into the second-half, holding against a determined and dogged Burt to win by a single point. Final score was Bun Cranncha 0-10 0-9 Burt.
The Reserves were very unlucky in their game against the same opposition in the Scarvey earlier in the evening, going down on a score of 1-7 to 1-11.

Sadness
We lost one of life’s true gentlemen at the weekend with the sad passing of Andy McLaughlin following a long illness, one that he fought with the same bravery and determination that he displayed in the boxing ring. Andy showed the same battling spirit on the football pitch too – when Andy tackled you, you stayed tackled! Despite his warrior spirit Andy was a gentle, modest soul with a ready smile who always put his community and friends first. He and his family have a long association with our Club and will be remembered by us always. He’ll be sorely missed – Ar dheis dé go raibh a anam dílis.
Underage Reports
U12 boys are away to Convoy in the league on Monday night. They are also getting ready for the U12 42 team All-Irelands in Newry on June 7th. We’re sure there’ll be full attendance at training if players want to get picked for this prestigious event.
U14 Hurling
A great result on Thursday night as the team beat St Eunan’s to earn the title of League Champions 2014. Congrats from all at the Club to the team and management on this excellent result. Final score Buncrana 4-14 St Eunan’s 0-6
U14 Championship result
Buncrana needed to win on Wednesday against Carndonagh to go into the Div 1 Semi Finals. Another very entertaining and fair game was played against a very good Carndonagh team, who have a couple of exceptional talents in Connor O’Donnell, Kieran Farren and their Goalkeeper Daniel McCallion. However, the Buncrana boys stuck to their game plan with good fast attacking football and this resulted in some good scores from the full forward line. Indeed, the Carn keeper saved a number of goal- bound efforts to keep the half time lead down to 5 points. The second half again was even and the boys held out, despite conceding a late penalty, to win by 6 points. Best for Buncrana were Oisin McDaid, John Paul McKenna and Aaron Craig. Next up in the Semi Final is Muff with the date still to be confirmed. Final score Carndonagh 5-9 vs Buncrana 7-9
U12 Football
Travelled to Convoy last night to take on St Marys who got a miraculous draw with a goal 4 minutes into injury time. Again, Buncrana got off to a good start and dominated right from the off. After racing into a 3 point lead, St Mary’s got lucky with a long range point effort that looped into the net and brought them back into the game. Buncrana kept pushing forward and were rewarded with another 2 well worked scores. Pushing on a bit too much however at the end of the half they got caught with a long ball over the top and St Mary’s got a well worked goal on this occasion. To the disbelief of all spectators, St Mary’s went in at half time leading on a score line of 2:02 to 0:06.
Buncrana tightened up the defence for the second half and did not concede any more of the easy goals that St Mary’s were gifted in the first. However, we did lose the impetus in our attack too and with only minutes remaining they still trailed by 2 points. Needing a goal now ourselves, the players were urged to drive forward again and they did not hold back – within a 2 minute spell and the momentum with them they magnificently turned a 2 point deficit into a 3 point lead. In a really competitive game and a great nights work done and dusted, just a matter of waiting now for the final whistle only when it was to be blown it wasn’t for the end of the game but for an ‘off the ball’ 50/50 shoulder charge. The ref had no hesitation in sending the Buncrana player off. However unusual the decision was the management gave the referee the respect asked for by all county clubs and with the game almost up we weren’t overly concerned. However, 5 minutes later after tiger-like defending by the young Buncrana men St Mary’s got the equalizing goal and the referee found the whistle to blow for full time.
Needless to say the management was very disappointed with the result of 3:03 to 1:09 but certainly not with the team effort – a hard-fought and totally dominant display by all. See you all at training Friday 7:00pm.
U10 Football
The team traveled to Owenbeg last weekend for their 1st Blitz of the season with games against Glen, Ballinderry and Newbridge. All 24 of the children who traveled participated in the 3 hard fought games in both A & B sections. The strength of the opposition was evident from the start but both Buncrana teams battled to the end of each game. Thanks to all the kids who participated and the parents for the support.
U10 training will resume as normal this week.
On Sat 7th June, Buncrana will host the next round of the U10 Northern Board Blitz.
U8 Football
The U8’s squad travelled to the Newtowncunningham Blitz on Saturday where Buncrana fielded 3 teams. All 3 teams provided a great display of skills and determination. Some top-drawer football, that even Michael Murphy would have proud of, was played against Robert Emmets, Noamh Colmcille and St Eunans. Thanks to the children, parents and coaches who attended.

Annual Golf Classic
The annual Golf Classic took place on Saturday in glorious sunshine at the North West Golf Club. There was a great turn-out and the event helped raise some welcome funds to enable the Club to keep buses on the road, hot water in the showers and petrol in the lawnmower! Seriously though, it takes a lot of money to keep a GAA club motoring and every cent helps. A massive thanks to PJ McCarron and all who helped organise a great day. Prize-giving presentations were held in the club house later that night (much later!) and these will be announced later. Thanks to everyone who contributed in any way to making this such a successful event.

Tá an Ciorcal Comhrá ar oíche Dé Luain ar ceal go dtí go bhfógrófar a mhalairt. Tá brón orainn faoi seo agus tá súil again go n-atosóidh sé arís go luath. The Irish Language Conversation group on Monday nights is cancelled until further notice. We apologise for this and hope to resume it again very soon.
