The Emergency Department at Letterkenny General Hospital is extremely busy today with above average numbers of very ill patients requiring admission to the hospital, manager Sean Murphy has admitted.
Readers have told us the department is ‘jammed’ with patients waiting to be seen.
The public are asked to avoid attending the Emergency Department if possible and to contact their GP or GP Out of Hours services in the first instance.
“Non-emergency cases attending the Emergency Department will experience lengthy delays,” said Mr Murphy.
“The hospital regrets any inconvenience to patients and their families and is taking all steps to deal with the situation.”
There have been complaints in the hospital of a lack of staff to cope with the number of patients.
It’s the fourth time in the past few weeks that the department has had to issue a warning.
