A 64 year old Donegal man has been killed in a traffic accident in Co Mayo.
Frankie Bonnar was struck by a van in the early hours of yesterday morning.
Mr Bonnar, with an address in Ballycastle but originally from Tubberkeen in Dungloe, was struck while his making his way home close to Palmerstown Bridge at 3.30am.
Mr Bonner, who had lived in Mayo for a number of years, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The area was sealed off while Garda Forensic Collision Investigators carried out a full technical examination of the scene.
The driver of the van which struck Mr Bonnar was uninjured but left shaken by the incident.
Gardai are appealling for witnesses who may have driven on the road yesterday morning to contact Killala Garda Station on 096 32111 or the Garda Confidential Telephone Line 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.
Mr Bonnar’s remains will repose at Lynn’s Funeral Home in Killala on Thursday evening from 5 o’clock with removal at 8 o’clock to St. Bridget’s Church, Ballycastle arriving at 8.30.
Hus funeral mass will take place on Friday at 12 noon with the funeral proceeding to Ballycastle Cemetery.
