U10 BLITZ REPORT
U10 GIRLS
We had three teams in Gweedore Saturday morning at the blitz hosted by the local club. Pride of place goes to the U10 Girls team who had a great victory over Gweedore. It was a tough battle against the breeze in the first half and the sides went in level at the break, but these young girls played some lovely football in the second half and scored some great points to pull away from a tough Gweedore side. This group of girls are a very dedicated bunch and are very well coached by Lisa McConigley, so a massive well done to all the girls. TEAM: Méabh Duffy, Caitlin Heraghty, Grainne Sweeney, Aoife Gibbons, Emma Hunter, Eimear Clinton, Una Clinton. Kate Sweeney, and Ella Mc Bride.
U9 BOYS, WHITES
These young lads played two games. First up they played very well to beat a tough Downings side, our boys took some great scores and defended very well with goalkeeper Danny pulling off a couple of great saves. Then they played the Gweedore U9s in a really exciting game where they pulled away to win well at the end. These boys are a very committed group who never miss training, and are coached by Martin McAteer. TEAM: Danny McLaughlin, Shaun McDevitt, Shaun Carr. Ronan McFadden, Ciaran Sweeney, Hugh Rodgers, James McAteer and Caolan Gibbons.
U10 BOYS, BLUES
The older boys team played two very hard tough games, beating our neighbours Downings by a single point in a great skillful match. This game was nip and tuck the whole way through, and was well reffed by the young Gweedore referee. Next up was a very good close match against Gweedore. This was a very physical game played in a great sporting manner, also well reffed again. We lost out in this game by 2pts ,but every week these young fellas play they are improving. This group are coached by our young senior player Oisin Shiels who like Lisa and Martin and all the underage managers give up a lot of time to work with all the boys and girls in the club. TEAM: Charlie McAteer, Gerard(tam) Sweeney, Jack Gibbons, Darren McAteer, Aaron McConigley, Conor Heraghty, Brandon Friel, and Cian Sweeney.
So overall, we had a very enjoyable day’s football over in Gweedore and as always the boys and girls represented the club with great pride. Thanks to the Gweedore club for the lovely refreshments afterwards, and a massive thank you to all the parents who made the journey to cheer on the three teams, a well worthwhile trip. And also thanks to our patient bus driver Patrick. Next U10 blitz will be in Portsalon on Friday the 20th of June.
