COMMUNITY ALERT: A BID by a WOMAN to lure a child into a car in Dungloe at the weekend was the SECOND such incident in a matter of days, Donegal Daily has learned.
The abduction attempt we reported on earlier occurred in Dungloe, that particular abduction attempt involved a woman getting out of a black jeep, she then attempted to entice a young child into the vehicle by asking the child did she want to go somewhere fun.
This incident which occurred in the Balindrait area of the county, again involved a black jeep, but this time it was a man who attempted to lure two young boys into his vehicle.
One boy aged six, and another boy aged five, were outside their great grandmothers house playing in the garden.
The man approached the children and asked them did they want some sweets, when the older boy declined, he then asked would they prefer ice-cream instead.
The oldest boy immediately ran away and grabbed his younger cousin with him.
The man in the jeep then sped away quickly from the scene.
The terrified boys didn’t see the registration plate, and didn’t know the make of the vehicle, but did say it was a black jeep.
The boys shocked parents immediately contacted the Gardaí, and an investigation into the incident has subsequently been launched.
Gardaí have issued an appeal to all parents, to know where their children are at all times, and to remain vigilant when they’re outside playing.
If anyone has any information regarding the incident in Ballindrait, then please contact Lifford Garda station.
