The final countdown...

The final countdown…

DONEGAL’S marathon election count is over – three days after it all began.

The final count in Letterkenny – where 10 seats were decided – saw a late battle between independent Donal Cullen and Sinn Fein councillor Mick Quinn.

And Cllr Quinn held his seat.

Liam Blaney (FF) topped the poll. Ciaran Brogan (FF) and John O’Donnell (Ind) followed before James Pat McDaid (FF) completed a treble for Fianna Fail.

Ian McGarvey had to wait until the early hours and was followed at 4.25am by Jimmy Kavanagh (FG).

There was mixed emotions in the Fine Gael camp as popular former mayor Noel McBride lost his seat.

Michael McBride (FG), Dessie Shiels (Ind) and the Sinn Fein duo of Mick Quinn and Gerry McMonagle complete the Letterkenny Electoral Area line-up.
