In Donegal County Council 83 candidates are chasing 37 seats, eight seats more than in 2009 following the closure of our town councils.
It’s early days but representatives of all the political parties and independents are using the process to put together tallies.
Matt Carthy of Sinn Fein is polling “extremely well” in every ballot box opened in Donegal so far.
It will be tomorrow or early Monday before the make up of the next Lifford chamber is established – so don’t hold your breath.
Independents are hoping to do well across Donegal’s five electoral districts.
