Fancy a spin for charity?
Do you fancy doing a spin on a bike for charity this Saturday or Sunday?
If so make your way to the Orchard Inn, High Road, Letterkenny for a ride with a difference.
It will help a group of friends undertaking a personal challenge – cycling the length of the country.
Gavin Harris, Cathal Wilson, Adrian Wilson, Carl Wilson (Australia), Robert Kavanagh, Marty Burke, Wesley Moore and Michael Russell love their cycling and more often than
not, can be spotted cycling the highways and byways of the county.
They are also eager not only to complete their biggest challenge to date but raise a bit of
cash in the process.
Group member, Robert Kavanagh said as the Mizen to Malin cycle was no longer a novelty, they decided that the aim of the project would be to focus and promote Jigsaw Donegal and raise money for that organisation.
Jigsaw Donegal provides a free and confidential support service for young people aged
15 – 25, with a drop-in centre on Pearse Road in Letterkenny.
As part of the national Jigsaw network supported by Headstrong, the National Centre for Youth Mental Health, Jigsaw Donegal aims to make sure that young people’s voices are heard and get the right support, where and when they need it.
When something gets you down, or you are stressed or bothered, it can be hard sometimes to know where to turn.
Jigsaw Donegal is there to help. Sometimes there’s a lot to deal with… studies, work, friends, family, sex, relationships, drugs and alcohol.
These can all pile on the pressure.
Its support workers are there to listen, and to help you work out where you want to be.
Young people are welcome to drop in to chat or meet with one of its support workers during the following times: Monday – Wednesday 4pm – 6pm; Thursday 4pm – 8pm and is closed on bank Holiday Mondays.
“It’s a bit like that Bruce Springsteen song: ‘We Take Care Of Our Own’, that’s what we’d like to think that we’re doing with this charity cycle and as all money raised will go directly to Jigsaw, we think it will be worth the effort,” said Robert.
According to Robert the riders taking part are self-funded so all money raised will go
directly to Jigsaw Donegal and will be used for the sole purpose of hiring an additional
clinical person to assist with the over-whelming demand on the service.
This Saturday they are inviting people to come along and do a half-hour spin on their specially erected bikes at the Orchard Inn. Do your stint and contribute to their fund raising efforts.
The cyclists’ main event takes place between Thursday August 28 and Sunday August
31 when they arrive back in Donegal from Mizen.
So if you meet the lads this weekend or at any of the fundraising events they will be hosting over the coming weeks and months become part of the bigger picture and help them complete this ‘jigsaw’.
