The village of Convoy is getting set for a huge weekend of celebrations next month with the local National School, Scoil Bhríde Convoy celebrates its 50th anniversary on Friday the 6th and Saturday the 7th of June.
The weekend celebrations include a thanksgiving Mass on Friday evening followed by dedication of Garden of Remembrance for past pupils and teachers.
School Principal Donal Coyle said the weekend will be one of great celebration in the local community and he urged everyone with links to the school to come along and join in the festivities.
“This is a huge celebration for the school, but also for the community and it is one that everyone is invited to attend. We have had so many students through the doors over the past fifty years and it would be great to see people making a huge effort to come bck to Convoy for the celebrations.”
The local principal said that the students at the school have been working on some terrific projects to mark the celebration weekend.
“There has been great excitement among the present students about this big landmark for the school and we’re hoping that people living locally who have families living further afield will get the message out that everyone is welcome back for what should be a very special weekend.”
Mr Coyle explained that a new Scoil Bhríde Facebook page has been set up to carry details of the weekend’s events and he asked people to log on and get more information there.
“Among the fantastic events we have lined up is a fun day on Saturday and that will be followed by a Dinner Dance in Jacksons. All are welcome and tickets available in the school. More details are available on the Scoil Bhríde Facebook page and we are hoping to see lots of familiar faces back in Convoy for the celebrations,” Mr Coyle concluded.
