Farmers have been warned to take extra care on their farms as the pensioner killed in yesterday’s tragic accident was named.
Cecil Kilpatrick, who was in his 80s, was killed when he was attacked by a cow on his farm at Carrickbrack in Convoy.
It is understood Cecil entered a field with his dog when the cow suddenly turned on him and trampled him.
His nephew Albert raised the alarm and the emergency services were on the scene immediately.
Cecil was rushed to Letterkenny General Hospital but unfortunately died from his injuries a short time later.
He is the fifth person to die on Irish farmland in the past fortnight alone.
Agriculture Minister Simon Coveney has appealed to farmers and all people working on the land to take extra care around animals and machinery.
A full investigation is underway into the circumstances surrounded the death of Mr Kilpatrick who was very well known and highly-respected within Donegal farming circles.
