SUSPECT QUIZZED AFTER 3 GARDAÍ HURT IN HIGH SPEED CAR-RAM ATTACK

A SUSPECT is being quizzed after three Gardaí were injured after their patrol car was rammed during a dramatic high speed chase.

The sergeant and two Garda colleagues were lucky to escape with minor injuries during the incident in Letterkenny.

It’s the latest incident of criminals ramming a Garda patrol car after the deaths of two officers in this county after similar attacks.

The chase over several kilometres began just after 4am yesterday.

The driver of the vehicle refused to pull over and ran through two checkpoints during the chase around the roads and streets of Letterkenny.

The car then left the town and drove at high speed in the direction of Manorcunningham where the vehicle was abandoned.

Gardaí gave chase across fields – and a major search operation began amid fears the driver had entered the Swilly.

The search continued for some time.

Gardaí later arrested a man near the Bus Eireann depot in Letterkenny.

He was still being detained for questioning last night.
