UPDATED: A motorcyclist killed in a road crash in Barnesmore Gap was part of a Cycle For Suicide charity event.
The victim, who was 69 and from Tralee in Co Kerry, was in collision with a lorry at McGroary’s Brae between Ballybofey and Donegal Town.
The accident happened just before noon.
The victim was part of large group who had been seen off by pupils at the Abbey Vocational School in Donegal Town and were cycling to Strabane on the next leg of their cycle.
It is understood the group returned to Donegal Town to consider the situation.
Garda Inspector David Kelly has confirmed the road reopened just after 5pm.
He also appealed for any witnesses to the accident to come forward.
Gardai and the other emergency services are at the scene but Gardai have confirmed that one man has died.
The person’s identity has not yet been made known until all relatives have been informed of the death.
The road between Ballybofey and Donegal Town has been closed and is expected to be closed until this evening.
Gardai have initiated a series of road diversions which motorists are asked to follow the diversions and to have patience.
The tragedy comes just days after 38 year old Siobhan Hutcheon was killed outside Newtowncunningham on Saturday afternoon last.
Ms Hutcheon, who lived in Muff, but who was from Derry, was killed when her car struck a Bus Eireann coach.
She is to be buried tomorrow.
