Well known chef Martin Anderson and his training group are set to run their first competitive 10k in Letterkenny tomorrow when they take part in the charity North West event which starts from the Community Centre at 2 p.m. sharp.
The ‘Club Fat Chef Slim’ team have been training since January doing a Lifestyle Challenge with the ultimate goal of running the North West 10k. Martin says the preparations have been going well.
It all started sensibly with a walking programme and slowly graduated to jogging. The tempo was upped again and in recent weeks the group has been doing 5ks in the buildup to the North West 10k. None of the group has run the charity event before so fingers crossed now that all of Martin’s team can complete the challenge
With the biggest charity race and walk taking place in Letterkenny tomorrow the North West 10k committee is making a final call for as many runners and walkers as possible to pre-enter this afternoon at the Letterkenny Community Centre between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. By registering this afternoon entrants pick up their t-shirts, numbers and chips if they are running the 10k and avoid a lot of hassle tomorrow.
It also means that all those who have pre-entered during the week can just focus on preparing for the race and walk tomorrow. Everyone taking part is reminded to be at Letterkenny Community Centre by 1 p.m. at the latest as traffic restrictions will be in place from that time on Sunday.
Donegal ‘Person of the Year’ Liam O Ó Cuinneagáin who will get the runners underway from the start line at the Pearse Road beside the Community Centre. The Mayor of Donegal Cllr Ian McGarvey has accepted the invitation to start the walkers who will leave from the Community Centre car park just after the runners have departed.
The North West 10k event is being sponsored again this year by DonegalDaily.com and Brian McCormick Sports & Leisure.
The two main charities who will benefit from Sunday’s event are the Letterkenny Branch of the Dyslexia Association of Ireland and the Conwal Parish Church Restoration Fund. A number of other associated charities will also benefit by their involvement with the 10k.
Final entries will be taken at the Community Centre from 10 a.m. tomorrow morning. No registrations will be accepted after 1 p.m.
