The housholders received the letters even though many of them have paid the charge.

Buncrana Cllr Ciaran Mc Laughlin has slammed Revenue for what he described as “another widespread billing error.”

Cllr McLaughlin said “This isn’t the first time that revenue have sent letters in error and I was contacted this week by lots of disgruntled families who have paid this unfair family tax and now are being asked to pay again. These mishaps need to be sorted out once and for all.

“Fianna Fail Dreamt up this family home tax and Fine Gael/Labour have implemented this injustice with nothing in return for the paying public, only anxiety, worry and stress.”

The Sinn Fein councillor added that council services have been severely cut with one third of staff let go over the last five years.

He also added that his party are committed to scrapping the so called local property tax if in government and we have provided fully costed alternatives asking those who have more, to pay more.
