A young Donegal mother has been reunited with her car after an eagle-eyed homeowner came across some keys in shrubbery a week after the car was stolen.

Stolen....the VW Passat which has been recovered.

Stolen….the VW Passat which has been recovered.

The VW Passat was taken form outside a house in Letterkenny exactly a week ago after thieves broke into the house and stole the car keys.

The heartless thieves took the car which contained a handbag and even a young child’s buggy.

As the days passed, the young mother thought the car had been burned out or destroyed.

But she got a lovely surprise yesterday when Letterkenny Gardai telephoned her saying a car fitting her car’s description had been spotted parked up in Derry.

It turned out a householder had spotted the car sitting outside her home for a number of days.

Yesterday morning the woman noticed some keys in some shrubbery beside her home and tried a button on the key and the lights went on.

The woman contacted the PSNI who contacted Gardai.

The stolen car had been reported missing and the young Letterkenny family were able to go into Derry to collect the car.

Even better was the fact that there was very little damage t the car and the child’s buggy was still in the boot.
