An elderly farmer was killed in a freak accident at his farm yesterday.
The farmer, 79, was working on his farm at Moville, on the Inishowen Peninsula when the accident happened.
It is understood his tractor rolled back and crushed him against a concrete wall.
The man, named locally as Patrick Crumlish, was believed to be unhitching a trailer in the townland of Glenagivney at around 5.25pm.
He had just stepped out of the tractor to unhitch the trailer at the back when the tractor rolled back and struck him.
Mr Crumlish was pronounced dead at the scene as a result of his injuries.
His remains were taken to Letterkenny General Hospital where an examination was performed on his remains.
The Health and Safety Authority as well as the Gardai have also carried out a full investigation into the incident.
Locals are shocked by Mr Crumlish’s tragic death.
His remains are expected to leave Letterkenny Hospital today for removal to his home for burial.
Mr Crumlish is survived by his wife Peggy.
Local county councillor Martin Farren, fmor Moville, paid tribute to the late Mr Crumlish, who was known locally as ‘Packie.’
“He was a very quiet, unassuming but hard working man who will be sadly missed.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife and extended family at this tragic time,” he said.
