THOSE familiar with 24-hour service stations across Europe will recognise this – a washing machine on a garage forecourt.
Now the machines have been installed at Kelly’s Centra at Mountain Top in Letterkenny.
It’s one of just seven of the industrial size washers – and tumble dryers – to be installed here in Ireland.
And with a capacity of up to 18kgs, they are proving popular with locals and tourists alike.
Shop owner Mairtin Kelly says they are already proving extremely popular.
“Most people can’t get a duvet or sofa covers into their domestic washing machines so they are proving very popular for that,” said Mairtin.
“They haven’t stopped spinning since they were installed a few days ago. Tourists have also been stopping off, chucking their washing in and then going into our restaurant for food while they wait for the wash to finish.”
The businessman won’t actually do your washing for you – it is a self-service laundry which comes with washing powder already provided.
“I’ve enough to be doing of my own,” he laughed.
