Rosses boxer Shaun Mc Shane was left frustrated on Saturday night when he was defeated by Aberdeen-based Polish fighter Marek Laskowski.
Shaun Mc Shane was narrowly defeated on points by Polish fighter Marek Lackowski on Saturday night in Paisley.
The show-opener was a six-two’s contest, Laskowski started brightly with the straight lefts working well.
Both men had their successes, however it was Laskowski’s scoring shots from range that was the difference as he picked up a hard fought 58-56 points with.
The fight could have went either way and many spectators felt a fairer result would have been a draw.
The boxing style of Lackowski was met with frustration by those in attendance, as the Polish fighter seemed to continually hold Mc Shane, despite the consistency of this approach, Lackowski never got a warning from the referee.
A disappointed Mc Shane expressed his dissatisfaction with the result but said it was a great experience to fight an opponent of the quality of Lackowski.
Mc Shane is now looking forward to bouncing back when he step’s into the ring again on June 13th.
Mc Shane told Donegal Daily, “It was a messy fight and a very close fight, 1 point would’ve have made the contest a draw, so that indicates to you how close it was.
“I was disappointed with the way he fought, I was looking to fight, he was looking to hold and to spoil the fight.
“Prior to the fight we were told he was an orthodox fighter, but he actually boxed as a southpaw and as a result the fight was messy.
Mc Shane was pleased at how he applied himself, considering he stepped into the bout last minute with little training and caused the highly rated Pole all sorts of problems.
“I’m relatively pleased with how I applied myself, I took nothing from him bar a clash of heads, considering my preparation I’m happy at how it went, I’m just disappointed at how he spoiled it.
“That’s boxing though, you move on and look forward to the next challenge.
“I’m fighting in Motherwell on June 13th and that fight could be on BoxNation so for those at home that can’t make the fight there’s a good chance you’ll be able to see it on TV.
A philosophical Mc Shane concluded by saying “Your better to learn from defeat, than win and learn nothing.
Mc Shane again drew a large support from the Irish diaspora in Glasgow and no doubt they’ll be a big crowd to cheer on the Rosses man when he steps back-on to the canvas in June.
