The “Make 1 Change” Campaign launched in January this year was a huge success and had its Recognition Evening on Wednesday last.
Make 1 Change, an initiative of the Parent Hub, Donegal asked parents in the county to make a New Year’s Resolution to do one thing differently with their children to add to the quality of family life.
Over 160 families from all over Donegal returned their Resolution Slips which were entered in a free draw.
Over thirty families committed to having a family movie night once a week with a similar number of families agreeing to go on a family walk once a week.
Other changes families agreed to commit to included having a family board games night, enjoying more outdoor activities together, going swimming together, reading together, less shouting at home and pressing the “pause button” when needed.
Helping each other more, reducing the use of TV and electronic devices and praying together also featured in the changes that families wanted to make.
Families were invited to the Recognition evening where Mary Roche gave a very interesting talk on the use of Picture Story Books and Reading with children.
The families were presented with their prizes which had been sponsored by the Cineplex, Letterkenny; Glenveagh National Park and Glenveagh Tearooms; Ionad Cois Locha, Dunlewey; The Eclipse Cinema, Bundoran; Surf and Turf, Bundoran; the Abbey Hotel, Donegal Town; Leisureland, Redcastle and Arena 7, Letterkenny.
Prize winners were the Meagher family, Ramelton; Tinney family, Letterkenny; Hegarty family, Letterkenny; Clarke family, Lifford; Mc Glinchey family, Raphoe; Mc Dermott family, Donegal Town; Mc Cracken family, St Johnston; Gallagher family, Churchill; Duffy family, Barnesmore; Magee family, Ballybofey; Ward family, Kerrykeel; Mc Dermott family, Mountcharles; Mc Shane Family, Kilcar; Mc Fadden family, Bunbeg and Mc Adoo family, Portsalon.
The Parent Hub would like to congratulate all the prize winners and wish them well with the changes they have made to family life and indeed encourage all families who committed to making a change to keep it up.
The Hub would also like to thank all the Sponsors and all the schools and community groups who distributed information about the Campaign.
It is hoped to run a “Make 1 Change Campaign” again next year and to encourage all families throughout the county to get involved.
