Sinn Féin spokesperson on Justice, Pádraig MacLochlainn TD, has today expressed his concern over reports relating to the continued harassment against Garda whistleblower Sgt Maurice McCabe.
Deputy MacLochlainn said: “I am very concerned to hear reports that Sgt Maurice McCabe is still experiencing a campaign of harassment due to his role as a whistleblower.
“It is entirely unacceptable that this should happen once, never mind on a continued basis and it is important to note that senior Garda management have a legal responsibility to protect whistleblowers and to thoroughly investigate these reports.
“If we are to develop a culture in the public and private sector that facilitates whistleblowers to come forward and shines a light on wrong doing, malpractice or corruption, then it needs to start now.”
