A Letterkenny farmer is outraged after two boxer dogs savaged 13 of his sheep – just hours after they had been put into rented sheds.

The brutal attack happened at The Glebe, Letterkenny.

The farmer had left off the sheep but when he returned he found the sheep had been ripped apart by dogs.

Locals who witnessed the attack identified the dogs who have since been put down.

The sheep had numerous facial wounds as they tried their best to defend their lambs during the attack.

A goose beloging to another farmer was also set upon during the vicious attacks.

A local man eventually managed to chase the dogs from the sheds.

However the farmer whose animals were attacked has been left out of pocket by more than €1,000 through vet fees.

He said he has constantly tried to reason with the owner of the dogs to compensate him but nothing has been forthcoming.

“These dogs were responsible for attacking my sheep and this man has admitted this. He has done the right thing and put these dogs to sleep.

“What could have happened if there was a young child wandering close to these sheds or on a laneway during this attack?

“All I want now is the money I have spent on vet bills which I have spent in trying to save these animals but all I am getting is promises.

“I decided not to say anything to try and get it sorted but this has gone on too long and I need to speak out about it,” he said.

The farmer also said he informed Gardai about the attacks on his sheep but they have never acted on the complaint.
