Two Donegal businesses have gone to war with eachother over a recycling centre which one claims is over-run with rats and flies.
Haulage boss Paul Bradley says he is outraged at the Inishowen Recycling Centre on the outskirts of Buncrana.
He claims the site is not operating under the proper planning laws.
Donegal County Council has confirmed it has started a new enforcement action against the centre.
It also expressed surprise that the company obtained a household waste permit when it does not have the relevant planning permission.
The owner Paul McLaughlin was given planning permission for a ‘materials recycling centre’ 12 years ago.
The permission came with strict guidelines that it be fenced off by trees and that no materials be stacked outside.
There are no tress planted and mounds of recycled waste is clearly in display at the site, says Mr Bradley.
The haulage company boss claims the site is a serious health hazard, is an eye-sore and that it is infested with rats.
A Donegal County Council spoekswoman said Mr McLaughlin had been fined before the district courts in 2006 for operating his premises outsides of its conditions.
However Mr McLaughlin has maintained he is doing nothing wrong and said he does not need planning permission.
He also claims he was visited by the Environmental Protection Agency and that they found nothing wrong with his operation.
