FINN HARPS secured three points with a good 5-0 win over Cobh Ramblers at Finn Park tonight – in dreadful conditions.
The decision to give the game the go-ahead was taken just 90 minutes before kick-off.
And players from both sides soon had to do battle with the elements as well as each other.
Rain, hail and even snow poured down on Finn Park.
The Donegal side took a deserved lead into half-time after a battling first 45.
James Doherty prodded home the goal after Funston saw his shot saved and crossed from the rebound.
Carel Tiofack, who had a couple of decent chances in the first half, added Harps second goal just three minutes after re-start after being set up Ruairi Keating.
Keating was having a great game and fired in another shot in the 66th minute only to see Ramblers’ keeper Robert Birdsall save.
Tiofack however picked up the ball and laid it off for Pat McCann, who had fired over just a couple of minutes earlier, smash the ball into the net, Birdsall’s touch not enough to keep the ball out.
And four minutes later McCann added his second – and Harps fourth goal, with Keating again at the centre of things, McCann following up Keating’s saved effort.
Keating got the goal he deserved, two minutes from the end to complete the 5-0 victory.
