ROAD ACCIDENT UPDATE: The victim of last night’s car crash was a 13-year-old boy, it has emerged.
The teenager and his father were struck by a vehicle at Ballymacarry, Cockhill in Buncrana just after 10.30pm.
The boy, named locally as Callum Dale, a pupil at Crana College, died at the scene.
His father Peter, who is 51, is being treated for his injuries at Letterkenny General Hospital.
Although he is understood to be in a critical condition, his injuries are not understood to be life-threatening.
Today to road where the accident happened remains sealed off as a full Garda investigation gets underway.
Local people in Buncrana – and in Inishowen – are once again numbed and in mourning at another road tragedy.
Local town councillor Ciaran McLaughlin said the incident was a tragic accident which has left a huge sense of sadness over the town.
“People were looking forward to the bank holiday weekend and suddenly we have been plunged into a huge feeling of sadness.
“This is a tragic accident and it has left the town numb with grief,” he said.
