BREAKING NEWS: Exclusive: THERE are fears of major job losses in Gaoth Dobhair – where Largo Foods has summonsed staff to a meeting this afternoon.
The company – subsidised by millions of euro of taxpayers money over the years – makes a range of snacks for the Irish and UK markets.
Two years ago Údarás na Gaeltachta poured close to €600,000 into the factory to buy new equipment.
New crisp lines including a tortilla snack were also launched.
Largo – which makes Tayto, Hunky Dorys and several other lines – is refusing to comment ahead of the 2pm meeting. Most of its fried snacks are made in Donegal.
However sources close to the company confirmed: “This is really bad news for Gaoth Dobhair. There will be job losses.”
