Realtra Rasaíochta from Coláiste Chineál Eoghain, Buncrana have qualified for the national final of the prestigious F1 in Schools National Championships.
In this unique competition, students have to plan, design, analyse, test and then race their newly created Formula 1 Model Car. The models are created to a scale of 1:20 and when complete are capable of travelling at speeds of over 110 km/hr.
The regional final were held on the 11th March in the GMIT Castlebar. 22 teams battled it out for the regional final. Two teams progressed in the junior cycle category, Realtra Rasaíochta from Coláiste Chineál Eoghain and Tekkit from St Louis CS, Co. Mayo.
This was a fantastic achievement for the team who have put so much work into the competition. They also managed to pick up the award on the day for “Best Engineered Car” competing against teams in both the junior and senior category.
The team are delighted to have progressed, particularly as the majority of the team are first year pupils. They are already working hard preparing for the National Finals which will be held in Dublin Castle on the 2nd of May. The winners of which will progress to represent Ireland in the World Final, to be held in Abu Dhabi.
