DDTV: St Eunan’s Letterkenny 4-10 St Malachy’s Belfast 0-5
The Danske Bank MacLarnon Cup is certain to make its way to Donegal next month after last night’s second semi-final at Garvaghey in which St Eunan’s Letterkenny emphatically scored an emphatic 17 points victory over St Malachy’s to set up a final meeting with Coláistí Inis Eoghain on St Patrick’s Day.
Indeed the result looked a formality at the break with St Eunan’s having played superbly against the elements to lead by 2-8 to 0-5.
St Malachy’s dug in during the second half and restricted the Donegal side to just 2-2. But they never looked like breaking down the Letterkenny defence for the goals needed to progress.
David Tyrell burst through for the first goal and Dara McDaid added a second in the opening half, while McDaid and Sean Hume split the posts for 3 points each.
St Malachy’s had 2 points each for Odhran Eastwood and Seamus McGarry, but their defence on several occasions coughed up possession rather easily and were quickly made to pay for it.
In the second half, McDaid found the net once more, as did Rory Carr. However by that point the game was over as a contest and a tasty derby final had been set up.
St Eunan’s : Dara McDaid 2-4, David Tyrell 1-1, Sean Hume 0-3, Niall O’Donnell 0-2.
St Malachy’s : Odhran Eastwood 0-2, Seamus McGarry 0-2, Ben Rice 0-1
