The three time Paralympic Gold medallist and five time World Champion at 800m and 1,500m visited Errigal College as part of the Sky Sports Living for Sport programme.

Michael is one of a team of Sky Sports Athlete Mentors that visit schools across Britain and Ireland and use their life story to motivate and inspire young people, so they can boost confidence, change behaviours, increase attainment and improve life skills.

The Sky Sports Living for Sport programme is about improving young people’s life skills and inspiring young people to develop their leadership skills through participation and delivery of a sports project over a six week period.

The first and second year students were treated to an inspirational talk from Michael about his personal life and much celebrated sporting career.

The challenges and success stories Michael presented to the students and teachers was truly inspirational for such a young athlete who still has so much to achieve.

The hard work and dedication he and his Dad (who is his coach) has applied to his athletic career has been incredible. No barrier or impediment was going to halt this world class athlete in achieving his record breaking and medal winning success to date.

He is currently recovering from injury and hopes to be back in full training in the next few weeks.

Michael delivered a planning for success workshop, one of the six key to success skills to the students. The other five key skills will be covered in the next six weeks of the programme, covering mental toughness, hunger to achieve, people skills, sport and life knowledge and breaking barriers.

Michael will coach the Errigal College team over the next few weeks as they plan their project.

The Errigal College Sky Sports team will organise an event where all 1st and 2nd year students will participate. They will complete their Sky Sports Living for Sport project following a rigorous planning and training schedule on Wednesday April 9th.
