Killybegs Credit Union, which serves all of South West Donegal, is in a very healthy condition with receipts for the past year in excess of €8.5m.
The body’s income is running more than half a million euro ahead of expenditure for the 12 months, and reserves comfortably in excess of Central Bank requirements.
This was stated at the 45th annual general meeting of the organisation in the Bay View Hotel which was attended by more than 80 members.
Killybegs Credit Union serves the area south the Gweebarra and west of Inver bridge, including the communities of Glenties, Ardara, Glencolmcille, Carrick, Kilcar, Bruckless, Dunkineely and, of course, Killybegs.
Outgoing chairman, Mr Colm Cunningham, emphasised to the AGM the importance of new legislation and the changed relationship with the Central Bank of Ireland.
But he stressed that Killybegs Credit Union had no reason to be anxious about the changes as it more than met all requirements. He thanked the members, his fellow directors and the staff and volunteers for their help and support during his time as chairman.
The following were elected to serve for the coming year: Anne Marie Burke, Alan Darnell, Colm Cunningham, John Mc Swiggan, Conor Conaghan, Marian Mc Guinness, and Colin Mabon.
