At a well attended meeting in Glenties last night, the Labour Party selected its local area representative Seamus Rodgers to contest the forthcoming election in the Glenties Area.
Seamus last held a seat there over a decade ago and hopes are high that he will be returning to Lifford now that there is an extra seat up for grabs.
A spokesman for the party said “No man deserves the honour more as he is an indefatigable worker for the good of the community. His commitment is total.
“He is a member of in excess of twenty organisations. The time and energy involved marks him out as a person of unique character, strength and determination. His work load is never seen as a burden.
“Seamus see as a privilege to work for the community and help those who are in need of assistance His contacts at national level and the respect in which he is held there has helped to deliver important services whether it be nursing services on Arranmore or provisions for the handicapped in Dungloe. Seamus is on the go twenty-four seven criss-crossing the county and country doing his utmost to find solutions to problems whether personal or community.
“Without his likes we would all be in a much poorer place. He epitomises community spirit at its most wholesome and it would be a fitting tribute if he was given the honour of being their elected representative.”
