Donegal sport will celebrate tonight with the county’s premier presentation awards ceremony in the Mount Errigal Hotel.
It’s the 38th Donegal Sports Star Awards function where the successes of 2013 will be marked by the committee with over a 100 nominees battling it out for the top honours.
The FAI CEO John Delaney is the special guest for the Donegal County Council sponsored show. The local authority will be represented by the Mayor Cllr Ian McGarvey and the County Manager Mr Seamus Neely.
A limited number of tickets are still available by ringing the Mount Errigal Hotel on 9106700.
Karl Lacey was the 2012 ‘Overall Winner’ and the sporting public has been speculating over the past month on who will be named for top honour tonight? Among the contenders are expected to be Michael Murphy, Jason Quigley, Larissa Muldoon, Nora Stapleton, Natalie McCarron, Jason Black and Mark English.
It’s not all about winners on the field as the Donegal Sports Star Awards committee also recognizes the volunteers who do the behind the scenes work like coaching, club development and games promotion. The ‘Hall of Fame’ and ‘Appreciation’ categories are an integral part of the awards ceremony while picking the team of the year was another tricky assignment for the judging panel. For the first time the committee will recognize an achiever in a new category for transplant sports. Vienna White is the first winner after picking up silver and bronze medals at the World Transplant Games in South Africa.
There are eight schools awards, which hold a very special place in the long history of the awards ceremony. The Mayor of Donegal Cllr Ian McGarvey will make the presentations to the schools winners.
