A MAN behind a spate of thefts from cars has today been banned from County Donegal.

Karl Lydon, with an address in Co Tipperary, pleaded guilty at a court today to a  string of theft charges. – overnight from Sligo.

The 24-year-old was arrested by Gardai in Ballybofey on Saturday, Letterkenny District Court heard.

Judge Paul Kelly heard Lydon plead guilty to breaking into a number of cars in The Beeches, Ballybofey.

He stole a Black laptop, a USB dongle a black iPhone 4, two personal diaries and architectural drawings from one vehicle, the items valued at more than €2,400.

From three other cars he took social services cards, a driving license, an AIB debit card, holy water, holy relics and prayer books.

Judge Kelly agreed to bail conditions which included him being banned from County Donegal except for a future court appearance on March 10.

He must also observe a curfew between 9am and 9pm and sign on at Thurles Garda Station three days per week.

Garda John O’Sullivan asked for an order releasing the recovered items so that they can be returned to their owners.

There was no objection from defence solicitor Patsy Gallagher.

Lydon was remanded on bail, subject to his bail conditions, on a surety of €500.

He will appear at Letterkenny District Court again in March 10.
