PUBLIC TO GET THEIR SAY ON DONEGAL WIND FARMS AMID BID TO PROTECT GLENVEAGH

THE Donegal public is to finally get its say on how wind farms should be developed in the county.

There are fears of the future visual impact of turbines close to Glenveagh National Park.

Donegal County Council has today agreed to put new proposals out to public consultation.

The move has been welcomed by those opposed to turbines close to homes.

There’s a proposal to make the set back distance 10 times the tip height of the turbine; that the pearl mussel designated areas are dezoned – and the zone of visual influence from Glenveagh National Park be defined more clearly.

The move is being seen as the beginning of the amendment of the current county developnent plan.

Cllr Jack Murray has welcomed the move.

“This should have been agreed in November however it is a welcome development, this allows the people of the county to finally have their say on future wind farm developments in the county,” said the Sinn Fein councillor.
