Letterkenny Institute of Technology continues to expand its curriculum with a view to offering programmes which will lead to careers in new and rapidly growing sectors.
LYIT has an excellent choice of CAO courses in areas where graduates are in demand with many courses developed with collaboration from industry and professional bodies.
In the last 2 years LYIT has entirely refreshed its curriculum and added a further 27 courses. In fact, nearly half of all CAO LYIT courses include an accredited work placement – an attractive proposition for employers and students.
There are four academic schools at LYIT – Business, Science, Engineering, and Tourism – offering a broad range of entry level degree programmes, right up to postgraduate Masters. In addition there are number of courses at LYIT for those wishing to return to college later in their career or change direction.
The student centred approach to learning and support make LYIT distinct with interactive teaching, approachable lecturers, lots of sports and societies and a friendly campus.
“Our focus is on delivering high quality education but also to make the learning experience an engaging and postive one. Our graduates leave us not only with highly regarded qualifications but with skills such as communication and problem solving” explains Registrar Billy Bennett.
LYIT is located on 2 campuses in Letterkenny and Killybegs, with excellent facilities, including a floodlit outdoor playing field and well-equipped gym, a refurbished cookery demonstration classroom, state-of-the art science labs and the only Wind Energy Training Tower in Ireland.
The School of Tourism at Killybegs provides highly respected courses in tourism, hospitality and culinary arts, with an ambitious European and US exchange programme. In fact it was recently featured as “one of the most respected colleges in tourism” in the recent Irish Times CAO supplement. (Jan 2014)
Registrar Billy Bennett explains, “Students who study at LYIT are choosing courses which will open up future career opportunities and equip them with skills for future success. We will continue to provide courses which increase the employability of our graduates.”
