Sinn Fein Councillor Gerry McMonagle has backed an online campaign to save one of Letterkenny’s best-loved streets.
The campaign aims to help save and restore the Church Lane area and enhance the tourist value of this area to the town.
Cllr McMonagle revealed “I will be in contact with Joe Gallagher Donegal County Council’s Heritage Officer to see what advice or support he can give this group.
“The Heritage council is currently inviting applications for Grants for heritage projects such as what is envisaged for the Church Lane and I would hope that Mr Gallagher could advise the Church Lane Group how best to proceed with their plans.
“I would also appeal to the derelict house owners to begin to put their house in order and to help compliment the aspirations of the people looking to improve the Church Lane.
“If everyone residents, home owners and council put their shoulder to the wheel I have no doubt we will revitalise the Church Lane area and in doing so the town centre,” he said.
