The victim was attacked at her home in the townland of Ranny, a remote area outside Kerrykeel. She was assaulted during the incident and her phone line ripped out to prevent her using her panic alarm.
Garda Inspector Michael Harrison told Donegal Daily that he believed the gang were local to the area.
One of the three men, he said, was particularly aggressive.
“This gang needed a car to get to this house because it is quite rural and the three men had local accents,” said the Inspector.
“We’ve already had three calls from members of the public and they have been very very helpful.
“But we need more information. I need to know if anyone saw a car in that area between 9pm and 11pm on Saturday night.
“These people broke into the victim’s home around 9.50pm. They demanded money and when the lady said she didn’t have any, they ransacked the house, with one of the three was particularly aggressive.
“I would appeal to anyone with information to contact us straight away.”
The gang was made off without taking anything but the woman was left terrorised. One of the men wore a cream coloured top pulled over his face. The other two men had scarves and jumpers covering their face.
