The Dungloe Sewerage Action Group has called on Minister of State Dinny McGinley to say when the scheme will be installed.
The group says that Minister McGinley told the nation on RTE radio on August the 12th of this year that a state of the art sewerage network for Dungloe was to start in weeks rather than months.
The group says this has not materialised.
The Dungloe Sewerage Group attended a meeting in Dungloe Public Service Centre and was told that almost all the necessary paper work was in place and that “the contractor (Coffey Water Ltd) would be commencing works on the new sewerage scheme before Christmas”.
The Dungloe Sewerage Action Group has been constantly monitoring progress of the proposed New Dungloe Sewerage Scheme.
The group have been in regular contact with the agreed Contractor, however, yesterday Tuesday the 3rd the group was informed via a phone call with Coffey Water Ltd, that Coffey Water Ltd were no longer in a position to discuss the New Dungloe Sewerage Scheme.
Spokesperson for the Action Group Micheal Cholm Mac Giolla Easbuig said “This is very concerning taking into account the potential threat to public health that exists in the vicinity of the existing wastewater treatment & disposal arrangement”.
The Dungloe Sewerage Action Group is now asking Minister of State Dinny McGinley to explain to the people of Dungloe & Glenties, why works on these proposed schemes did not start within weeks as announced on RTE radio and when they will start.
