A TEENAGE gang of thugs behind the armed robbery of two young men in Letterkenny are behind a ‘reign of terror’ in the town.
Donegal Daily reported yesterday how the gang battered the two teenagers with batons and threatened them with machetes and swords.
The gang robbed the young victims wallets and took their bank cards. One victim had a phone stolen which was believed to be worth €650.
But the incident is just the latest in a series of incidents in Glencar.
Gardaí have identified some of those involved in the robberies who have spread their terror among teenagers in schools in the town.
A number of parents have told Donegal Daily that they believe many attacks have not even been reported, because of the scare tactics used by the gang to keep their victims silent.
In the incident in Glencar the mother of one of the boys says they too have been warned not to speak to Gardaí.
“Everyone knows exactly who these people are,” said one resident.
“Our children can’t even go out of the house in case they are bullied, attacked or even worse.
“It’s like a reign of terror. I’ve lived in Letterkenny all my life and these outsiders have taken over our town and turned parts of it into no-go zones for our children.”
Several other parents made the same claims.
“We’re not going to stand for this. The guards had better do their job and do it quickly,” said another resident.
“We know you have to be careful these days but no teenager should have to worry about swords and machetes when they’re going out with their mates. It’s not on.”
