Arranmore United 5 Erne Wanderers 0
The visitors started this game well as Arran took time to settle. Erne Wanderers’ number 8 came close early on with a strike from 20 yards. Erne also had chances from two corners but failed to take advantage.
Arranmore took the lead after some neat interplay between John Greene and Danny Rodgers down the left. Danny found the inrushing Gavin Mc Glanaghey at the back post with a great cross and he scored to put Arran one up. It stayed like this until the end of the half with the midfield becoming congested.
Arran sprung out of the traps after the break and found themselves two up when Chris Mc Glanaghey found Daniel O’Donnell on the right wing. He beat his man and crossed to the back post for Gavin to score his second. The third goal followed minutes later as a bullet like header from Gavin found its way to the net. Erne came close after this on a few occasions but Michael McHugh and Danny Rodgers did well to break up the attacks. On 75 minutes Arranmore’s 4th goal arrived when Mark Ward beat his man down the line and crossed for Chris Mc Glanaghey to tap home. The 5th and final goal came in the 85th minute after Daniel O’Donnell put in a great cross for Michael McHugh to drill home.
Team performance from Erne Wanderers with Martin Proctor and Gavin Mc Glanaghey best from Arranmore.
Glenea United Reserves 1 Donegal Town Reserves 1
Glenea got their Downtown Cup programme underway with this draw. The home side started brightly and created a couple of chances which they failed to take. Donegal came more into the game as the half progressed and took the lead on 30 minutes when Brian Feighan reacted quickest to a left wing cross to head home. Glenea equalized 5 minutes later from the penalty spot, which Declan Mc Garvey converted. At the start of the 2nd half Glenea started strongly and were unlucky not to take the lead through efforts from Dean Gallagher and Michael Mc Clafferty with both hitting the woodwork. As the game progressed both sides were finding it difficult to create any chances with Donegal’s best effort coming from a well struck free-kick that Shaun Mc Clafferty tipped over the bar. The home side had a late chance when Dean Gallagher got onto a loose ball in the box but saw his effort clear the bar. Best for Glenea were Shane Penrose, Kevin McFadden and Dean Gallagher while Declan Browne was best for Donegal Town. Referee: Paul Doherty.
Curragh Athletic Reserves 0 Milford United Reserves 0
Curragh Athletic started this game brightly with good work from Gary Quinn setting up Dan O’ Brien for a shot in the 12th minute. Milford created more chances as the half progressed. Micheal Dullaghan pulled of two great saves from the Milford forwards. Curragh took control of the match in the second half with Dan O’ Brien hitting the post after good work from Gary Heaney. O’ Brien then sent in a corner but Justin Mc Bride’s header went inches wide. Curragh should have won this game when a great header from Sean Maxwell just missed the target. Best for Curragh was Micheal Dullaghan. Team effort from Milford.
Glencar Celtic 3 Tullyvinney Rovers 0
This game was played in perfect conditions at the flagpole field Rathmullan. Glencar started brightly with some early possession. Tullyvinney found their feet mid-way through the first half. However shortly afterwards they were undone by a great ball in behind their defence from Chris Malseed. Paddy Collins latched onto it and squared back to Shane Hilley who tapped into the empty net to give the home side the advantage. Shortly afterwards Glencar gave away a cheap freekick on the edge of their area. Froggy stepped up only to strike over the bar. The second half had much the same pattern as the first with both sides having spells of possession with no real goal threat from either team. It was only when Tullyvinney pushed for an equaliser that Glencar took full advantage and scored two goals in the last ten minutes. The first, a fine ball from Michael Molloy which found Martin Brogan who beat two men to finish calmly into the corner. The second saw excellent work from Shane Hilley down the right before he floated a ball under the crossbar for the simplest of tap-in’s for Michael Molloy. Best for Glencar: Raymond Quinn, good team performance from Tullyvinney Rovers.
Keadue Rovers Reserves 0 Glenree United Reserves 2
Glenree went away from Central Park with a good victory from this cup game. It was a good day for football and the home side started well but had a goal disallowed on six minutes for offside. Keadue’s good opening continued and they looked dangerous especially from set pieces. Glenree had a good spell mid-way through the opening half and took the lead on twenty five minutes when Damien Nelis’s effort from the edge of the box went in off the post. Keadue responded well, creating a coupled of openings before Glenree took full control of the game on thirty four minutes. Damien Nelis again provided the finish for the visitors. Keadue had a good chance on forty two minutes, David McCarron shooting wide. Into the second half and after a scrappy start Glenree had an effort just wide of the post. Keadue went all out in an effort to gain something from the game. Adrian Hanlon set up Corey Gallagher’s who’s shot was saved. Donal Rodgers then shot over as Keadue kept up the pressure. Further chances fell to home sides way with Corey Gallagher and Donal Rodgers both hitting the woodwork. Best for Glenree were John Mc Clafferty and Damien Nelis while Conor Greene and David McCarron were best for the home side. Referee: Martin Coll.
Gweedore United Reserves 1 Orchard F.C. 1
This game got off to a lively start with both sides looking for the early goal. The home side probably edged the possession in the opening half with good chances falling to Sean Paul Mc Mahon and Eoin De Barra however Tommy Mc Laughlin in the Orchard nets was excellent on each occasion. The visitors had a number of half chances through Niall Bonner however the United defence stood firm. Orchard took the lead in the 41st minute when the ball was handled in the United eighteen yard box and the referee had no option but to award a penalty. Sean Sweeney stepped up and converted the spot kick to give the visitors a goal advantage at the interval. In the early stages of the second half United began to press in search of an equaliser however the Orchard defence and Mc Laughlin in nets were difficult to break down. The home side finally got the breakthrough in the 55th minute when Sean Gallagher scored from close range following a goal mouth scramble. There were chances at both ends with Stephen O’ Donnell and Hugh Martin Curran going close for the home side and Niall Bonner and Warren Mc Ginley going close for the visitors however this game ended in a 1-1 draw, which was probably a fair result on the day. Eoin De Barra, Sean Gallagher and Hugh Martin Curran played well for United with Niall Bonner and Tommy Mc Laughlin excelling for Orchard on the day. Referee: Michael Mulhern
St. Catherines Reserves 0 Cranford United Reserves 0
Both teams played well in the first half but cancelled each other out with very few chances created by either side. The second half saw ‘The Saints’ start the brighter with chances falling to Luke Kelly and Owen O’ Donnell but neither converted their opportunity. Dale Mc Fadden and Connor Shields showed impressive glimpses for Cranford. The Saints pressed hard but couldn’t break down a tough Cranford defence. Team performance from Cranford. Paul Cunningham best for St Catherines. Referee: Andrew Mullan
Strand Rovers 1 Castlefin Celtic Reserves 3
Downtown Cup action came to Maghery on Saturday for the first time. The game started at a high tempo with Strand enjoying the best off it. Neither side could find an opening goal in the first half. The second half kicked off with Strand again enjoying good periods of possession. The visitors somehow took the lead and scored two quick goals, Keith Nelis and Brian Doohan doing the damage. Nelis then got his second to kill the match as a contest. With little to play for Strand kept going until the end and grabbed a consolation goal when Darragh Hanlon scored. Good team performance from Castlefin with Paddy Glackin and Brendan Brennan best for Strand Rovers.
Old Orchard Saturday Division One
Mulroy Celtic 1 Fintown Harps AFC 1
The home side went into this game on the back of six straight defeats but they played throughout as a team in confidence. Both teams created chances as the game settled. Darragh Gallagher broke the deadlock when he picked up a loose ball and drove at the home defence and rifled
home. Mulroy got back on level terms when the excellent Packie Mc Elwaine beat the offside trap, controlled the ball and fired into the bottom corner. Michael Mc Grory then failed to convert from the penalty spot. Both teams could’ve snatched it but it finished level. Paul Coyle and Packie were best for Mulroy while Darragh Gallagher impressed for Fintown.

FAI Junior Cup
Cappry Rovers 3 Kerrykeel ’71 F.C. 5
A hat-trick in the final ten minutes turned this FAI Junior Cup match on it’s head as Kerrykeel ’71 F.C. progressed to the next round. Cappry Rovers took the lead as early as the second minute when Dylan Ramsey converted Kyle Lafferty’s cross. Marty Mc Ateer levelled the scores before the interval when he scored direct from a free kick.
Cappry again went in front when Kieran Gallagher scored from close range following a corner on sixty two minutes. Alan Patton doubled the home side’s advantage on sixty eight minutes when he ran through and shot under the outrushing keeper. Three minutes later Davitt Walsh headed a free-kick to the Cappry net to reduce the deficit. It was level again on seventy four minutes when Johnny Friel beat the off-side trap to get the first of his hat-trick. On eighty two minutes he put the Rab’s Park men in front for the first time in the match when he headed past O’ Meara. Two minutes later he completed his hat-trick and by doing so wrote the name of Kerrykeel ’71 F.C. into the draw for the next round of the FAI Junior Cup. A good team effort from Cappry Rovers with Seamie ‘Coshie’ Friel, Mark and Johnny Friel best for Kerrykeel. Referee: Paddy Martin
Lifford Celtic 1 Aileach F.C. 4
Aileach started brightest keeping Lifford on the back foot for the early part of the first half without troubling Paul Given in the Lifford goal. Ross Porter had Lifford’s best chance of the half on the half hour mark but could only find the side netting. The Game looked like remaining a stalemate as half time approached until Aileach finished during a goalmouth scramble following a corner. The second half began with Aileach on the back foot as Lifford pressed more men forward. This proved to be Lifford’s downfall as they were caught on the counter-attack and Anthony Doherty finished from 18 yards. Lifford got back in the game immediately when Johnny Robb converted a penalty. Lifford looked like equalising as the game neared the eighty minute mark only to again to get caught on the counter-attack when Doherty grabbed his second. Aileach finished the game off when they grabbed their fourth following a late corner. Good team performances from both sides.
Ulster Junior Cup
Ballybofey United 0 Redcastle F.C. 1
A goal two minutes from time was enough to send Redcastle F.C. through to the next round of the Ulster Junior Cup at the expense of Ballybofey United. The Twin Towns men put their off field difficulties aside as they attempted to progress to the next round of this competition. As the match unfolded their ambitions looked to have substance as they gave as good as they got against the “Foyle Park” men from Inishowen’s top flight.
Chris Darby and Niall Mc Closkey were the first to try their luck albeit from distance. Redcastle then had the best chance of the match when Colm Mc Laughlin went through one on one with Chris Patton in the Ballybofey net. With only the keeper to beat Mc Laughlin pulled his shot wide of the post. Mc Closkey then sent Darby clear on the left-wing but his attempted cross was cut out by Redcastle’s Aidan Cunningham. Darren Kelly and Darragh Redmond were also playing well for the home side with the experienced John Gregg commanding around the centre of the field. Patton made sure it would remain scoreless at the interval as he saved well from Mc Laughlin who looked the most likely avenue for a Redcastle goal.
At the start of the second half Darren Kelly had a shot saved by Michael Mc Cole after he had been set up by Redmond. Mc Laughlin then got in behind the Ballybofey defence and was taken down by Bonar. James Curran stepped up to send the spot kick high over the crossbar. Ballybofey later had a strong penalty claim of their own waved away by match official Packie Coll when Darragh Redmond was the subject of a two man avalanche just inside the Redcastle area. Mikey Grant replaced Gregg and with him went Ballybofey’s midfield experience. Redcastle took control and in the eighty eighth minute found the winner when Cunningham fed Mc Laughlin who had plenty to do as he stretched out his leg to get his toe to the ball with Patton rushing off his line in an effort to prevent the strike. It was enough to send the Inishowen men through to the next round of this season’s competition. Best for Ballybofey United: Patton, Gregg, Darby and Hannigan. Best for Redcastle: Curran, Breslin and Mc Laughlin. Referee: Packie Coll

Gweedore Celtic 1 Rathmullan Celtic 5
Rathmullan had a convincing victory over the home side at the Screaban. Gweedore had the first chance of the match on fifteen minutes with Colin Ferry heading against the crossbar. Midway through the first half the visitors fired home two goals.
A cross from the right wasn’t dealt with by the Gweedore defence and Oisin McMenamin stroked it in at the far post. Three minutes later the lead was doubled, a good build up from Rathmullan was finished by Dara Patton. Ten minutes into the second half the game was finished as a contest after Eamonn Sheridan fired home. Two more goals from Rathmullan had the game well and truly sown up on seventy minutes. Thomas Diver scored a consolation goal ten minutes from time. A good performance by Rathmullan. Referee: Ed Moore
Kilmacrennan Celtic 0 Glenea United 2
Kilmacrennan found themselves under strength for this encounter, most notably Timmy Burke who was injured and Steve Mc Elwaine who had attended a function the previous night. Kilmacrennan started the brighter but found themselves one down when Ryan McFadden finished off a swift counter attack with a header. Both teams made chances but Glenea went two up on the hour mark when Donal Coll scored after a goalmouth scramble. John Sandilands could have got one back but inadvertently fired wide from 5 yards. Glenea closed out the game to take the three points.
Milford United 1 Cranford United 2
Milford lost their local derby against Cranford at Moyle View Park. Milford started brightly and were well in control and went one up through Gary Merritt on 30 minutes. Cranford began to grow in confidence and got one back when a Kyle Black shot was deflected off Mark Flood. Lee Burke had a golden opportunity on the stroke of half time when keeper Shaun Gallagher’s miss hit clearance hit Burke but his lob from the edge of the box went wide with the keeper beat. In the second half Cranford began strongest and showed more hunger and focus. Cranford’s winner came twenty minutes from time when Arthur Lynch headed home from a free kick. In the 89 minute Milford, Cranford and everyone in the ground thought Milford had snatched an equaliser when Mark Flood powered the ball home from a corner only for the referee to blow for a foul for climbing in the crowded box. Best for Cranford were Arthur Lynch and Sean Mc Elwaine with Kyle Black best for Milford.
Referee: Mick Langan.
St. Catherines 4 Curragh Athletic 1
The Saints played host to Curragh and it was the home side that started the brighter controlling the game for large spells. Curragh however took the lead on thirty eight minutes when Ryan Carlin latched onto a free kick from Neil Lloyd. The Saints came out for the second half and had patience as they tried to level the score, Jason Noctor equalised for the home side on fifty one minutes when he tapped home a Brendan Mc Guire cross. Noctor got his second on fifty four minutes when he scored after a scramble in the box. Curragh pressed for the equaliser with chances from Carlin and Oliver just missing the target. The Saints pounced again on seventy minutes when Gareth Concarr broke and calmly slotted past the Curragh keeper. Cormac Cannon made it four for The Saints on eighty minutes when his shot across the keeper found the Curragh net. Team performances both sides. Referee: Marty Mc Garrigle

Drew Connolly again shot wide on sixty two minutes for Lagan. Following some good combination work up front Corey Gallagher made it five for Keadue, finishing low to the corner. In the closing stages of the game Adam Neely’s header was fumbled over the line by the Lagan keeper and in the final minute Martin Redmond made it seven with the final kick of the game. Best for Lagan were Drew Connolly and Declan Sweeney while best for Keadue were Sean Boyle, Adam Neely and Martin Redmond. Referee: Ronan Floyd.
Bonagee United 3 Dunkineely Celtic 4
Gweedore United 5 Eany Celtic 0
This game started with both sides giving very little away. United saw good chances fall to Niall Friel, Darren Ferry and Michael Connolly however Cathal Gallagher in the Eany nets was excellent on each occasion and throughout. As the game went on the home side began to settle and got the breakthrough in the 29th minute when Niall Friel finished from close range following a corner. The home side double their advantage in the 41st minute when Darren Ferry’s pass was well finished by Eugene Noel Ferry to make it 2-0. The visitors saw half chances fall to Mark Ward and Barry Rose however both went just wide. In the second half the visitors came out looking to pull one back and had good possession for the first 10 minutes. However it was the home side who got the next goal in the 68th minute with an excellent finish from Michael Connolly into United began to dominate the play and got their 4th in the 70th minute, and another good finish from Eugene Noel Ferry. Deele Harps 7 Drumbar F.C. 0
Before the game a minutes silence was held in memory of Danny Mc Gavigan who passed away on Saturday, may he rest in peace. The game itself was a one sided affair as Deele manager Willie Curran rang the changes following a run of bad results. The tone of the game was set early on as Cathal McGowan thundered in on a number of tackles. Deele didn’t let the away side into the game at all and opened the scoring early on when Conor Catterson fired home from inside the box. Shortly after Deele striker supreme Shane Gallagher opened his account for the day as he finished following good work from Aidy Gallagher. Aidy Gallagher himself created and finished another fine goal on the half hour. Conor Catterson added his second in the 35th minute, a sweet strike from 25 yards. Shane Gallagher added his second on the stroke of half time with a neat finish. Deele took the foot off the pedal in the second half but still added a further two goals with Shane Gallagher grabbing his 3rd and 4th goals. Referee: Gerry Gallagher.
Copany Rovers 4 Dunlewy Celtic 3
Copany Rovers ran into a 2-0 lead with two goals from Pauric Rooney in the 3rd and 17th minutes. Dunlewey pulled one back on the 23rd minute when they were awarded a penalty which was scored by Michael Roarty. Copany restored the two goal advantage in the 25th minute after a corner from David Graham was headed in by Thomas Given. On the 28th minute Dunlewey struck again after a long range shot from John Cannon was deflected past the keeper. Dunlewey made it all square when a corner from the right was scored by Hugh Cannon. It remained like this until half time. The second half started with few chances for either side as both sides cancelled each other out. In the 90th minute substitute Paul Clarke scored the winner for Copany following a corner. Dunlewey had two men sent off in the dying minutes of the game and Copany were also reduced to ten men. Best for Copany were Pauric Rooney and Rodger Leonard. Good team performance from Dunlewey.
Glenree United 0 Raphoe Town 1
A hard working and determined Raphoe took the spoils on a calm day in Glenree Park.
Shots from distance from Damien Coyle and Marty Gallagher were the best Glenree could muster and Raphoe took the upper hand when Emmet Kelly rose highest from a corner to give Raphoe the lead in the 30th minute. John Cunningham in nets for Glenree kept the scores level going in at half time. Glenree had more bite in the second half but shots from Dan Mc Groddy and Damien Nelis were well saved. With Emmet Kelly playing a blinder for Raphoe Glenree could not get a foothold on the game and Raphoe almost doubled their lead before the end. A well deserved win for Raphoe with Emmet Kelly man of the match.
Whitestrand United 2 Letterbarrow Celtic 0
Fresh from their victory over Dunlewey Celtic last week Letterbarrow Celtic came to Whitestrand Park today and started brightly causing the home team some concern in the opening exchanges. However on 12 minutes Whitestrand got the opening goal through Paul Lynch. Good defensive play from Eamon Martin sent James Gallagher down the left wing, Gallagher neatly skipped past two defenders and delivered an inch perfect cross for the in-rushing Lynch who headed past the visitor’s keeper. Letterbarrow had an opportunity to get back on level terms on 20 minutes but their effort was well saved by Benny Friel. The home side had further attempts on goal on the 21st minute with a Sean Gallagher effort and again in the 35th minute when Paul Lynch headed wide. However the Strand got the vital second goal on the stroke of half time through Sean Gallagher. Gallagher picked up the ball in the middle of the park and unleashed a stunning drive, with his un-favoured left foot, which flew into the top left hand corner of the net past the helpless Letterbarrow keeper. At this early stage, Gallagher’s strike must be a strong candidate for goal of the season. The half time score was 2-0 to the home team.
The second half proved to be a very evenly contested affair with both teams canceling each other out. With the visitors pushing for a goal to get them back into the match Whitestrand broke on several occasions in pursuit of their third goal but the final pass was often lacking. Letterbarrow’s best effort of the half came in the 80th minute but the Strand defence held firm. Eddie Blake squared the ball to Jerome Burke who somehow fired over the bar when it seemed easier to score should have wrapped up the game in the 85th minute. The final whistle sounded with the home team taking all three points on a score line of 2-0. Best for Whitestrand were Paul Lynch, Sean Barrett and Jerome Burke, who worked tirelessly up front all day. Best for Letterbarrow were Cathal Lowther and Pearse Mc Groary.
