Donegal Senator Jimmy Harte is to undergo a series of tests tomorrow in a bid to establish the extent of his injuries.
The Labour party politician remains in an induced coma as doctors decide how best to tackle his condition.
The father-of-four, 55, was found unconscious after a freak accident in which he is understood to have fallen in Dublin city centre in the early hours of Saturday morning.
Senator Harte has suffered blackouts in the past and it is thought this could have led to his fall.
It is believed he suffered a number of injuries including a fractured skull and severe head injuries.
A family member said he remains in a critical condition at Dublin’s Beaumont Hospital.
“All we can do is to take it one day at a time and hope and pray for the best.
“He is still in an induced coma and will undergo a series of tests on Wednesday.”
Good wishes have been flowing in for the affable Letterkenny-based politician since his tragic fall on Saturday.
His wife Mary and the couple’s children have been at their father’s bedside as have many of his extended family.
Politicians from across the political divide in Donegal have also been sending messages of support in for the former Letterkenny Town and Donegal County councillor.
