Letterkenny woman Maria McCambridge came out on top as the Ladies Winner today’s Airtricity Dublin Marathon.
Maria is the first Irish woman to win the Dublin Marathon since Sonia O’Sullivan in 2000.
She retained her 2012 Irish victor’s title with an unofficial time of 2:38.51.
Maria looked set for a sure victory as the leading lady for 18 miles and a halfway time of 1:19.25.
Tension rose when Cork’s Claire McCarthy-Gibbons overtook her and it was a tight race for the last six miles right up to the finishing post.
Maria is married to well-known Letterkenny athlete Gary Crossan. Gary finished the race just after Maria.
Maria runs for Dundrum South Dublin. Her clubmate, Joe Sweeney, came second in the men’s category.
Joe Hehir was the overall victor of the Dublin Marathon, finishing at 2:18:19. He was the first Irish man to win the race in 20 years.
