Umbro FAI Intermediate Cup Results 27.10.13
There were three Intermediate Cup games down for decision on Sunday with the meeting of Drumkeen Utd and Cockhill Celtic billed as the game of the day. These two evenly matched teams did not disappoint, despite the bad weather conditions, serving up a nine goal thriller that took extra time to separate the sides before the Inishowen kingpins advanced to the next round. Elsewhere there was a derby between Bonagee Utd. And Letterkenny Rovers and in Ramelton, Swilly Rovers hosted Kildrum Tigers. In Letterkenny, Trevor Scanlon’s Rovers got the better of rivals Bonagee on a score of 6-2 while Jason Gibson’s Swilly dispatched Kildrum Tigers. All 3 teams will be hoping for favourable home draws in the next round of the competition.
Cracking Tie in Drumkeen
Drumkeen Utd. 4
Cockhill Celtic 5 (AET)
In a cracking cup tie played in very wet and windy conditions the home side Drumkeen were missing a few players due to injury. Nevertheless, Drumkeen started off brightly and after 5 minutes hit the post. The home team continued to put pressure on the Cockhill defence and after a few missed chances by both teams Drumkeen scored took the lead through Conor Carlin. Cockhill piled on the pressure and drew level from an own goal before half time to send the sides in level at the break. 1 – 1 half time.
In the second half Drumkeen went into a two goal lead with goals from Richie Moore and Packie Mailey. Again Cockhill never gave up and Garbhain Friel showed his strength when he went in on a high ball on top of McCauley and scored, Cockhill scored again after a corner to go 4 -3 in front. The home team came back again the Chris Kyle scored to send the game into extra time. With the game looking destined for penalties at 4-4 in the last minute of extra time, Cockhill scored the winner.
Drumkeen would like to wish Cockhill good luck in the next round and perhaps go on and win it, you have the squad of players to do it.
Letterkenny Ease Through

Letterkenny Rovers 6
In a game in which the score line would suggest a thrilling encounter, this match was far from an enthralling one and it is Letterkenny who came out on top in this local derby. Played on a very wet and blustery day, it was Bonagee who started brightly and took the lead in the 14th minute. Graham Cullen’s ball into the channel reached Mark Harkin, and the latter finished between keeper and post. Letterkenny equalised on the half hour mark through Anthony Gorman. The former Finn Harps man unleashed a shot from 25 yards that flew into the top corner of the net, much to the delight of the visiting bench. They took the lead with only a couple of minutes left of the first forty five, this time John Doherty rose highest in the box to head home a Jamie Doherty corner. With the second half only five minutes old, Johnny Minnock extended their lead when his free kick into the danger area evaded everyone and nestled in the back of the net. Bonagee pulled a goal back in the 61st minute, this time it was Greg Magee to score a spectacular effort from twenty five yards out. Jason Doherty regained Letterkenny’s two goal advantage in the 72nd minute when his effort was somehow pushed into the net by the Bonagee goalkeeper. Doherty turned provider three minutes later, when he controlled Minnock’s cross field ball expertly and squared for Darren McElwaine to volley home from ten yards. With the players tiring, Letterkenny completed the scoring in the 88th minute, this time Jamie Doherty scored from six yards. Team performances. Ref Packie Coll.
Swilly Tame Tigers

Kildrum Tigers 0
An entertaining match played in good conditions considering the early morning rain as the Rovers came out on top. Very keenly contested game and both teams had early chances but it was the home team that took the lead midway through the half, a great free kick delivery from out wide and Dylan Hegarty towered above everyone at the back to head past the helpless Kildrum keeper. Swilly would go in at the break one up.
The second half started with Kildrum much the stronger and pushing hard for an equaliser. They had numerous chances but a mix of great defending and fine goalkeeping kept them out. They pressure did tell however late as they were awarded a penalty. Darren Cassidy stepped up but Wade was to come up trumps with a fine save down to his right. Almost immediately Swilly went up the pitch and made it two, substitute Bobby Hanlon finished expertly with his left foot as it fell to him from six yards. They now advance to the national stages of the draw were they would hope for a home draw to ignite the great cup tradition from years gone by.
