The seniors and reserves had mixed results this weekend. The seniors lost out at home to Red Hughs on Saturday evening but the reserves enjoyed a comfortable victory over the same opposition.
The seniors took on Red Hughs in Newtown on Saturday evening, needing a win to maintain their quest for a play-off place. However at full time it was Red Hughs who had taken the points on a scoreline of Naomh Colmcille 0-8 0-12 Red Hughs. This result, together with Fanad Gaels’ win at Lifford, means that Fanad Gaels secured a play off place and Naomh Colmcile finished the season in a very creditable 4th spot on the table. The last league fixture for the seniors is at home to Naomh Columba. Check website and Facebook page for training and match updates for this week and weekend.
The reserves completed the double over Red Hughs courtesy of a comfortable win at Newtown on Saturday. The home side got off to a great start with an early goal, and eventually won on a full time scoreline of Naomh Colmcille 6-13 0-7 Red Hughs. Home and away games against Naomh Columba complete the fixtures for the reserves, who will end up in 2nd or 3rd position on the table.
A Northern Board administrative error meant that Gaoth Dobhair, and not Cloughaneely (who the u13s beat comfortably in what was thought to be the shield semi-final last week), actually finished 3rd in their section of the U13 division 2 league. As a result of this error, the u13s now have to take on Gaoth Dobhair in the shield semi-final for the right to face St. Eunan’s B in the final. The fixture against Gaoth Dobhair was due to take place on Sunday, but the club agreed to a postponement request from Gaoth Dobhair, who had been invited to a hurling tournament and were unable to field. This was a very unfortunate sequence of events for the lads and their parents, but full credit to everyone concerned for the way they have handled the situation that has arisen.
The u16s were due to take on Moville in the shield semi-final, but Moville pulled out of the fixture, meaning that the lads are now through to the shield final (details tbc). See Facebook for updates during the week.
