Letterkenny Town Council is to be quizzed over its planning on the controversial new traffic lights at the LYIT.
The installation of the lights has caused serious tailbacks in the town at certain times since they were turned on two weeks ago.
Now local councillor Gerry McMonagle is to ask the council if a traffic survey was done before the lights were put up outside the college on the Port Road.
Cllr McMonagle said there is no question the lights have led to traffic tailbacks at vital times during the day.
“The evidence is there for all to see – since the lights went on there has been a serious traffic build-up in the town at vital times including morning, lunch and tea time when people are going home.
“There is obviously an issue with the sequencing of the lights and they may need to be looked at to try and sort this out,” he said.
The Sinn Fein councillor said he is merely asking the question as to what traffic survey, if any, was carried out by the council to see the impact of the lights.
“I have to say I am not aware that any survey was done – perhaps there was.
“If there was, I would like to know what the results were because it is obvious there are problems with the lights at the moment,” he said.
