On Saturday we told how online crooks have raided the bank accounts of AIB customers in Co Donegal.
Now customers of Ulster Bank and Bank of Ireland have also revealed that their debit cards have been cloned – and large amounts of cash taken from their accounts.
Three members of the same family in Donegal Town all lost money in the raids – on accounts at AIB and Ulster Bank.
Bank of Ireland staff also spent yesterday calling customers to tell them that thieves had accessed their accounts.
The online thieves spent the money in most cases on transactions in the USA.
Branches affected include the Donegal Town branches of both AIB and BoI.
“I was told they took €500 and had attempted to take more,” said one Bank of Ireland customer.
“I was told it was being investigated – I just want my money back; as far as I’m concerned it’s the bank’s security which has been breached.”
An AIB customer contacted us yesterday to warn other customers to check their accounts.
“I know a lot of other people who have been victims of this,” he added.
In most cases the banks should contact customers; however if you feel you have been robbed online, contact your bank immediately.
