THERE is heartache and anger in Co Donegal today following the death of a pensioner battered by burglars three months ago.
Suzy Arthur was 89.
She passed away in hospital last night.
Suzy and her sister Isa were attacked on July 1 at their home.
Isa, who is 91, is distraught at the death of her sister. Suzy was taken to hospital and never got out again.
At the time Isa told how the lowlife gang called to the property offering to paint it and hours later smashed their way into the house she shared with her sister Suzy.
The raiders threw Suzy to the ground and broke her hip, before ransacking the proprety at Feddyglass, Raphoe – on the main Letterkenny to Lifford Road.
Isa told Donegal Daily at the time: “I was out in the garden and when I came in they shoved me into the living room. I saw Suzy on the ground and she couldn’t get up.
“I tried to shout that I was getting a gun but they were too strong for me. I just wished I had more strength to fight back.
“They searched the house looking for stuff and ransacked Suzy’s bedroom but we don’t have anything.”
Suzi suffered a serious hip injury from which she never recovered.
Her nephew Joe McKean said today that as far as he was concerned the burglars had killed his much-loved aunt.
“It was they (the burglars) who put her in hospital and it was those injuries which killed her,” he said.
The raid in July was the SIXTH such incident at the elderly sisters’ home at Tullyrap near Raphoe.
A full Garda investigation was carried out into the raid but nobody has yet been arrested in relation to the incident.
Gardai were given a description of the men and the car they were driving at the time.
