Tir Chonaill AC Notes
The Donegal Cross Country season got off to a spectacular start last Sunday with the Even and Novice c/ships, hosted and superbly organised by the local Rosses Club, at the Mullaghderg Banks in Annagry. Over 500 athletes from all over Donegal and from visiting clubs Omagh Harriers, Enniskillen and Mid Ulster took part in glorious sunshine on a links course.
A small band of Tir Chonaill AC made the journey to West Donegal and many competing over the country for the first time came away with some outstanding performances.
Daniel Gallagher, a few weeks back into his winter training schedule, took a tumble on the final lap of the U18 race but recovered to finish a satisfying 3rd. The Girls U14 team led by Niamh Boyle in 9th position won bronze team medals – 2pts outside the runners up total. The support team was Anna Reibling, Cliodhna McManus, Charlotte Timoney, Kerry O’Loughlan and Kate Shovlin. Emily McGill in 13th position led the Under 16 girls home and was followed by Eve Travers, 14th and Kate Smith, 21st.
The Donegal Novice CC c/ships opened the proceedings on Sunday. Well done to Richard McCarthy, Christopher Doherty and Ollie Thomas on good performances. Well done to all and thanks to coaches David Doherty, Richard McCarthy and the parents who travelled to support. Next outing is on Sunday for the Uneven and Masters c/ships in Castlefinn.
